Thank You Michael Jackson

What? Is that post title a bit strange? Well, let me tell you why I thank him. He had shaped my life and has been my favorite musician and performer for as long as I can remember. I wanted to name Gove Prince Michael Joseph Jackson III. Oh well...

Okay, not really. But really, can you avoid hearing about Michael Jackson (hereafter refered to as MJ) each and every time you turn on the television? No, you can't. Well, Gove came and sat by me while I was watching TV and heard about MJ's death. Here's the conversation:

Gove: Why did MJ die?
Me: His heart got sick and stopped working and he died.
Gove: Why did his heart stop working?
Me: Because he didn't take good care of his body and it got sick.
Gove: What made his body sick?
Me: Drugs made his body sick.
Gove: (Moving closer to me, eyes welling with tears and whispering) I'm scared.
Me: What are you scared of?
Gove: I'm scared of drugs.
Me: You don't need to be scared of drugs, they won't come and get you. You have to choose to go get drugs and put them in your body.
Gove: How to you get drugs?
Me: You have to go to a scary man's house and buy them. If you make good choices and never get drugs, you will never have to worry about them making your body sick.
Gove: Why did MJ put drugs in his body?
Me: He made some bad choices.
Gove: Why did he make bad choices?
Me: I don't know, I didn't know him.

I am now asked why MJ did drugs every night by both Gove and Max. So, thank you Michael Jackson for opening dialogue about drugs between my children and I. Thank you Michael Jackson for making my kids scared silly of drugs.

I fully support you naming your next child ( boy or girl ) " In Memory Of Michael Jackson " That would be SO awesome ! Not really, but it would give people something to talk about. And you could probably get yourself on the new or TMZ or something ; )

That was a sweet conversation between you and Gove. It is true though, most kids really have no idea what drugs are and sadly, they find out from their friends. I like how you told Gove though. You did a good job : )

I almost had that exact same convo with Gracie over Micheal J. Minus the scared part....we had that talk along time ago. Luckily I dont have TV and am not seeing him every time I turn around. I agree with Cami...you did handle that one very well!
