A Star is Born

In May we welcomed baby Tyler into our family. I cannot believe I have four boys. I really never would have believed I would have all boys. As a child all I ever dreamed of was having a baby girl to dress up and put bows in her hair. Too bad for me. Life is good and I couldn't imagine it any other way!

This boy was stubborn. He was born on his due date, but only after days of laboring on my part. I would start having contraction, then he would move up and around and the contractions would stop. By the time I had him, I hadn't slept in days! The day before I had him, I had essentially given up on actually going into real labor on my own. I went to Leland and got adjusted and had the baby moved into position as I have with all of my boys. Tyler was posterior and Leland was able to get him to turn into the right position. I started having good contractions, but then he moved again and I stopped. My mom begged and goaded me to try caster oil, so i finally gave in and did it! She gave me a long massage and rubbed pressure points on my ankles and between my shoulders. After hours without contractions, I just told Nolan to go to work because nothing was happening that night. I got the kids put to bed and sat down to rest when I felt my body start to contract. It was 9:30pm and my contractions were hard and fast. I called my mom and told her I might be in labor! She was very pleased to have been right about the caster oil and the massage! During the course of our conversation, my contractions got harder and closer together. I texted Nolan and told him he needed to come home. Because of his job he can't just pick up and leave at a moment's notice, so it took him some time to get home. By about 10:30, I was panicking. I had never experienced labor progressing so quickly and was very worried I would not get an epidural. I know, crazy fear, but it was my fear nonetheless. I texted Shane and Anamin to come over to sleep with the kids and texted Nolan again and again to get home! Once Nolan got home and Shane and Anamin were there for our boys, we jumped into the car and headed for the hospital. By the time we got to the hospital, my arms and legs were tingling and I felt like I was going to pass out from hyperventilating in the car! The baby was posterior again and sitting was very painful, plus the aforementioned fear was not helping with my calm breathing! Once I got admitted and was told I would have an epidural, I was just fine. They gave me an IV and an epidural and my body did the rest of the hard painful work while my brain was oblivious to the pain and suffering! By the time 5:00am rolled around, I was fully dilated and effaced, but the baby was still moving all around and my water had not broken! The nurse said I had bags of steal (gross :) The doctor came in a little after 6am and broke my water. What a flood that was! I wanted to wait through a few contraction until I truly had the urge to push before I just started pushing without cues from my body. When the time came, I push him out in a few pushes and met my baby boy. He came out sideways and weighed in at 8lbs 7oz. My biggest baby. He looked like Max and had huge hands and feet. He came out shrieking, angry and starving! He was literally licking his lips with hunger from the moment he was placed in my arms. I was so happy to see him so pink and healthy. We love our new baby Tyler!

Big mouth, big hands and demanding from the start. He must be my child!

A few minutes after birth. So alert!
