We spent the Labor Day weekend at my grandparents cabin on Mount Graham. I remember as a young girl my grandma taking me and some of my other girl cousins up to the cabin in the summertime. I remember the beauty of the mountain and the peace. I always looked forward to this time with my grandma and my cousins. There is no electricity on the mountain, so we learned to "rough it" with propane lighting and lanterns. We bonded as family, sang songs accompanied by grandma's guitar, and learned to kill the many bugs that crossed our path - or in my case learned to get my grandma to kill them for me. We pulled taffy and hiked to anyplace we could find. I am grateful for these memories and to my grandma for helping to create them. It was especially great that the time we spent in the mountains this past week was spent with my grandparents. My kids love Granny and Papa and enjoyed being with them and doing some of the things I did as a child. One of the greatest blessings I have had in my life was the opportunity to really know my great-grandparents. Both sets of my grandparent's parents lived until I was grown and in college. Bunner and Papa lived to see me married and have my first child. Their examples have been influential in my life. I am grateful that my children are getting to know their great-grandparents and pray that they will live long enough to influence the lives of my kids.
